18th Century Playing Cards

A project done with the Archaeological Research Institute looked at an archaeological site called the Rowdy Camp, a post-revolutionary war Fort in Indiana. A typical game that would have been played at the Fort was cards and so two decks were printed. Both decks are based on 18th-century card decks and both are hand-printed using screen printing and Linocut.

The first deck is a regular deck, having regular face cards and suits. The second deck is a special deck based on the Rowdy Camp and military card decks. This deck has all the face cards as weapons and items that would have been found at the fort. Each face card is printed relief with screen printed wording and suits.
